The CARES pre-planning Loan provides support of up to £150,000 for projects to take forward plans for renewable energy generation schemes for communities and rural businesses in Scotland. You can read more about the community loan here and the rural business loan here.
The next CARES pre-planning loan panel is on Tuesday, 13 December 2016. If you wish to submit an application please contact your Local Energy Scotland Development Officer who will help you prepare the application. The key dates leading up to the panel are as follows:
- Draft application submitted- Mon, 14 Nov
- Internal review of application- Mon 14 Nov- Tue 22 Nov
- Final application submitted- Wed, 23 Nov
- Application reviewed by Local Energy Scotland and appraisal completed
- CARES pre-planning panel meeting- Tue, 13 December.

To reflect the Scottish Government’s aspirations outlined in the Community Energy Policy Statement and Good Practice for community benefit and shared ownership, all CARES applications after August 2015 will be required to offer a degree of community ownership. There will be additional grant support available for rural businesses, housing association, local authorities, third sector organisation to assist with the work required in preparing promoting a shared ownership offer.
