Barrmill & District Community Association Fun Day
Barrmill & District Community Association (BDCA) will be holding a Fun Day on Saturday 5th September 2015 where they will present their plans for a community wind turbine. They propose to develop a single 500kW wind turbine and have appointed SgurrEnergy Ltd to act as their Project Manager. SgurrEnergy are in the process of preparing a planning application for North Ayrshire Council and securing a grid connection from ScottishPower. This project has been 95% funded through a CARES pre-planning loan.
The turbine will have a hub height of up to 35m and a 52m rotor diameter giving a tip height of up to 61m. Electricity generated by the turbine is planned to be exported to the grid via a proposed connection point at Kilbirnie; however, they are investigating the possibility of using the project to provide power for the new community centre and other potential uses. They have undertaken initial financial modelling to confirm the financial viability of the turbine. Based on a number of considerations BDCA expect the project could generate in the region of£150,000 each year and up to £2.5 million over the lifetime of the project. We would like your views on how this money could be best spent.
BCDA would like to extend an open invitation to anyone who is interested in hearing more about our community energy plans and meeting the project team. The event will run from 10am to 3pm in Barrmill Community Hall and we’ll have a dedicated information stand where you can find out more about our wind turbine project.
No registration is necessary for this event.
