Newmilns Regeneration Association announcement

Newmilns Regeneration Association are delighted to announce that they have formed a joint venture company with community energy company Hopi Energy and landowners David and Irene Cadden of East Heads, Newmilns

The new Company, Renewables for Regeneration at Newmilns LLP, will be seeking planning consent for a 500Kw wind turbine on Irene and David’s land at East Heads in the coming months.

Hopi Energy, one of the Partners, is a Community Interest Company based in Falkirk, whose mission is to distribute the wealth from renewable energy to community projects as well as put an end to fuel poverty.

This is a unique opportunity where the Community benefit is considerably increased with NRA being part of the Joint Venture, not simply receiving a benefit payment from the developer as happens in most cases.

Newmilns Regeneration Association will receive a substantial up front lump sum to be used on a single project within the Town as a major initiative to promote regeneration and employment.

As Partners  in the Joint Venture they will also receive 10% of the net profit of the Company for the life of the turbine along with an annual payment of 4% of generated gross income as a community payment.

Newmilns Regeneration Association are not providing any funding into this venture but have been working closely with the two other Partners to form the new LLP and all legal agreements are now in place.

Pre Planning work is being fully supported by Local Energy Scotland through their CARES Scheme without which this project would not have happened.

Public support will be needed for this project which will bring much needed financial community benefit to assist NRA in the regeneration of the Town.

A spokesperson from NRA said “this project will provide NRA with funding to work towards the objectives set out in the Local Action Plan which was determined following a wide public consultation. There will be further public consultation in relation to this proposal in due course but NRA are committed to seeking funding sources to allow it to carry out all its objectives.”
