Shared Ownership

Local Energy Scotland is here to help support Shared ownership projects by giving support to both community groups and renewable energy developers.

Shared ownership is any structure which involves a community group as a meaningful financial partner in a renewable energy project.

Scottish Government have an ambitious new target that at least half of newly consented renewable energy projects will have an element of shared ownership by 2020.

Please view the Scottish Government Good Practice Principles for Shared Ownership of Renewable Energy Developments and supplementary guidance for developers. The materials and tools on this section of our website are intended to support this document.

Shared ownership is an emerging area and there is policy support to encourage communities to maximise the benefits from renewables. These include rates relief for shared ownership projects to be continued in 2017/18, consideration in the planning system and ambitious targets for 2020. More information can be found on our policy page.
