Policy

Shared ownership is an emerging area and there is policy support to encourage communities to maximise the benefits from renewables. These include rates relief for shared ownership projects to be continued in 2017/18, consideration in the planning system and ambitious targets for 2020.

Shared ownership and the planning system

Stakeholders may wish to be aware of a letter sent from the Chief Planner for Scotland, John McNairney, to the Heads of Planning at Scottish planning authorities in November 2015. This letter explicitly acknowledges the publication of the Shared Ownership Good Practice Principles, and their relevance in the planning process in assessing shared ownership project.

See the letter here.
